Nigeria has lost one of its foremost elder statesmen. Alhaji Bamanga Tukur died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 91.
Tukur, a former Governor of Adamawa State, an internationally renowned businessman, and a one-time National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was widely regarded as a political icon whose career spanned decades of service, sacrifice, and devotion to the nation.
Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi Musa, NDC Senatorial Candidate for Adamawa Central, described the death as “a colossal loss to the entire political class of Nigeria,” citing Tukur’s immeasurable contributions to national development and political mentorship.
“His exit has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill,” Musa said in a condolence message. “Many of us who depended on his guidance now feel like political orphans, but his legacy will continue to inspire resilience, loyalty, and genuine nationalism.”
Tukur was celebrated as a peace ambassador in politics, a courageous leader, and an inspiring personality, with an influence that extended well beyond Nigeria through a distinguished career in international business.
The late statesman will be remembered for his role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and for his enduring commitment to unity and national progress.
Musa prayed that Almighty Allah grant the family, Adamawa State, and the nation the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
