The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the International Peace Commission and revered elder statesman, Alhaji Sadiq Mohammed Walin Ganye, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, describing his death as a monumental loss to Adamawa State, the North-East, and Nigeria’s democratic heritage.
In a condolence message, Walin Ganye said the death of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has left a gaping void in the nation’s political landscape, stressing that Bamanga Tukur was not merely a politician but one of the defining political figures of his generation — a man who belonged to an era when leadership was forged through experience, institution-building, intellectual depth, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a political colossus whose footprints are indelibly etched in the political history of Adamawa State and Nigeria,” Walin Ganye said. “His passing is not only a personal loss to his family, but a painful departure of one of the architects and witnesses of our political evolution.”
He recalled Bamanga Tukur’s towering influence in the defunct Gongola State, where he rose to become a formidable political force and one of the most consequential figures in the old state’s history — a journey from regional politics to the national stage that, Walin Ganye noted, laid bare the breadth of his influence, resilience, and capacity for leadership.
He further described Bamanga Tukur’s tenure as PDP National Chairman as yet another defining chapter in a long and eventful public career, one whose contributions to Nigeria’s democratic process would continue to command scholarly reflection and historical assessment for years to come.
