Parents Urged to Remain Vigilant as Police Commissioner Assures Swift Response
A wave of alleged child abduction incidents has sparked fear and anxiety across communities in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, prompting renewed calls for vigilance and stronger collaboration between residents, traditional institutions and security agencies.
According to reliable community sources, the disturbing incidents have unsettled families and heightened concerns over the safety of children in the area.
Among the reported cases is the alleged disappearance of the three year old child of Ibrahim Boboi Kiri, who was reportedly taken last month under circumstances that remain unclear. Community sources also alleged that about two weeks ago, a daughter of Kabiru Bagobiri was similarly abducted, deepening fears that the incidents may be part of a worrying trend.
The growing concern attracted the attention of respected elder statesman Alhaji Sadiq Mohammed, Walin Ganye, who immediately mobilised efforts aimed at ensuring that the cases receive urgent attention from security authorities.
In a demonstration of community leadership, Walin Ganye reportedly constituted a delegation to accompany the parents of the affected children to meet with the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State. The visit was intended to present the cases directly to the state’s highest police authority, seek updates on investigations and advocate for intensified efforts to locate the missing children.
Speaking after the meeting, one of the members of the delegation, Hon. Ayuba Mohammed, expressed optimism over the outcome of the engagement.
According to him, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police warmly received the delegation, listened attentively to the concerns raised by the families and assured them that the Nigeria Police Force, working alongside other security agencies, would strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering in order to track down those responsible.
Hon. Ayuba stated that the Commissioner pledged to place officers and relevant sister security agencies on heightened alert while investigations continue, assuring residents that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority.
Community members have also expressed concern over reports that one of the suspected child abductors allegedly disguised herself by wearing clothing that covered her entire body from head to toe, making identification difficult. While these claims remain unverified, residents have been urged to exercise caution and promptly report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security agency rather than taking the law into their own hands.
Walin Ganye, who also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Peace Commission, has consistently championed peaceful coexistence and community security across Ganye Chiefdom and beyond. His intervention, many residents believe, reflects his longstanding commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and promoting collaboration between communities and law enforcement agencies.
He reportedly appealed to parents, community leaders, religious leaders and traditional rulers to remain vigilant and strengthen local security networks by sharing credible information with security agencies whenever suspicious activities are noticed.
The elder statesman further stressed that safeguarding communities is a collective responsibility that transcends ethnic, religious and political affiliations. He reiterated his commitment to supporting every legitimate effort aimed at restoring confidence and ensuring that Ganye remains a peaceful and secure place for all residents.
Residents who spoke to Pioneer Newspaper welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and reassuring. Many appealed to security agencies to sustain investigations until the missing children are found and those responsible are brought to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts by Pioneer Newspaper to obtain an official reaction from the Adamawa State Police Command were unsuccessful. Several calls placed to the Police Public Relations Officer went unanswered.
Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the reported incidents. Investigations are ongoing, and residents are encouraged to rely on verified information while cooperating fully with security agencies.
