Journalists Urge Renewed Commitment to Peace, Unity, Justice and Democracy as Nation Marks Independence Anniversary

YOLA: The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has extended warm felicitations to the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the people of the state, and Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

In a goodwill message marking the milestone, the Council described the anniversary as a defining moment for national reflection. It paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the founding fathers who laid the foundation of the nation, acknowledged the progress made over the decades, and admitted frankly that significant challenges still test the country’s resolve.

The Council called on all Nigerians to renew their commitment to peace, unity, justice, democracy and responsible citizenship. It stressed that Nigeria’s survival and progress rest on the shared responsibility of citizens and leaders alike, and that no nation can rise above the collective will of its people.
The Union also restated the vital role of the media in nation-building. It said journalists remain essential to promoting accountability, strengthening democratic institutions, fostering national cohesion, and ensuring that citizens have access to accurate, credible and responsible information.

The Council commended journalists and media practitioners across Adamawa State and the country for their resilience, bravery and dedication to public service. It noted that they have continued to serve despite the economic, professional and security pressures facing the media industry.

As the nation celebrates 66 years of independence, the Council urged leaders at all levels to step up efforts to improve the welfare, security and living conditions of citizens. It also appealed to Nigerians to remain hopeful, patriotic and committed to building a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.
