Federal Government Moves to End Years of Uncertainty, Strengthen Unity Colleges Nationwide
ABUJA – In a landmark move aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s education sector and addressing the long-standing plight of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified PTA teachers into the Federal Civil Service.
The decision, announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is expected to bring an end to years of uncertainty faced by thousands of teachers who have sustained academic activities in Federal Unity Colleges despite operating outside the regular federal payroll.
The approval marks one of the most significant interventions in recent years to strengthen manpower in Federal Government Colleges and improve the quality of teaching across the country.
According to the Minister, the teachers were screened and verified through an inter-ministerial process to ensure that only qualified personnel who have genuinely served in Federal Unity Colleges benefit from the exercise. He noted that the recruitment will proceed in line with established public service procedures.
For many of the affected teachers, the approval represents more than employment—it is the fulfilment of years of dedication, sacrifice and perseverance. Several PTA teachers have worked for years under difficult conditions, receiving salaries funded by parents through PTA arrangements while awaiting regularisation into the federal workforce.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will improve staff stability, boost teachers’ morale and enhance learning outcomes in Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria.
