Horror in Yola: Adamawa Police Arrest Suspect as 30-Year-Old Man Dies After Brutal Assault

YOLA, ADAMAWA – July 19, 2026: The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected killer following the tragic death of a 30-year-old man, Nathaniel Yusuf, who allegedly succumbed to severe injuries sustained during a violent assault in Damilu, Yola North Local Government Area.
The suspect, Abubakar Musa, is currently in police custody and is being investigated for alleged culpable homicide after the victim reportedly died while receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Jimeta.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, ANIPR on his official Facebook page, the incident came to light after Grace Yusuf, sister of the deceased, reported the attack to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kofare. She informed officers that her brother had been violently assaulted by the suspect and was in critical condition.
Police operatives immediately responded to the distress call, raced to the scene, rescued the injured victim, and rushed him to the Specialist Hospital, Jimeta, for emergency medical treatment. The suspect was simultaneously apprehended at the scene of the incident.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that Nathaniel Yusuf suffered devastating injuries, including fractures to both legs, a broken right hand, and serious head injuries after he was allegedly beaten with a stick during the attack. Despite the determined efforts of medical personnel to save his life, the victim later died from the injuries he sustained.
Following the tragic development, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, fdc, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, to immediately take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation aimed at ensuring that justice is served.
The police commissioner also ordered the diligent prosecution of the suspect in accordance with the provisions of the law should the ongoing investigation establish criminal liability.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the medical facility for an autopsy as investigators continue to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across Adamawa State, the Police Command assured residents that no stone would be left unturned in the pursuit of justice. The Command further appealed to members of the public to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and continue to provide timely and credible information that will assist security agencies in combating crime and ensuring public safety.
