INEC Shifts Deadline for 2027 Candidates’ Submission to July 14

In a significant development ahead of the 2027 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The submission window, which was originally scheduled to close on Saturday, July 11, 2026, will now remain open until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, giving political parties a final opportunity to complete the nomination process.
INEC said the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload their candidates’ details within the stipulated timeframe.
The Commission described the decision as part of its commitment to ensuring an inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral process while operating strictly within the provisions of the law.
Political parties have therefore been urged to make full use of the extension by uploading all required information before the new deadline, as no further delay is expected.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on July 12, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
