Panic, Confusion Hit Adamawa As APC Governorship Primaries Fail To Start

Confusion, tension, and growing anger have continued to trail the scheduled governorship primaries of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, across several local government areas in Adamawa State as electoral officers reportedly failed to appear for the exercise hours after the official commencement time.
As of almost 12 noon on Thursday, May 21, 2026, reports reaching our correspondents from different parts of the state indicated that no visible electoral activity had commenced in many polling centres despite party members and supporters arriving as early as 8:00 AM in anticipation of what party leaders had earlier promised would be a free, fair, and credible gubernatorial primary election.
In Ganye and several other local government areas monitored by our reporters, aggrieved party faithful were seen waiting endlessly under harsh weather conditions while lamenting the total absence of electoral officials, voting materials, and coordinators expected to supervise the exercise.
The development has triggered widespread suspicion among party supporters and stakeholders, many of whom fear that hidden political interests may be working behind the scenes to manipulate the process.
Supporters of frontline gubernatorial aspirant Abdulrahaman Bashir Haske openly expressed disappointment over the situation, accusing some party leaders of betraying earlier assurances of transparency and internal democracy.
Several supporters who spoke to our reporters alleged that the continued delay was capable of undermining confidence in the entire process and damaging the credibility of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Our people came out peacefully and in large numbers because they believed the party would conduct transparent primaries, but what we are witnessing now is confusion and uncertainty,” one party member in Ganye lamented.
Political observers say the unfolding situation may deepen existing tensions within the party, especially among aspirants and supporters already wary of alleged attempts to influence outcomes through consensus arrangements and internal power plays.
As of the time of filing this report, the Adamawa State chapter of the APC had yet to issue an official statement explaining the absence of electoral officers or clarifying when the exercise would eventually commence.
Meanwhile, anxious party members across the state continue to wait, hoping that the much-anticipated APC gubernatorial primaries will not end in controversy, disappointment, and internal crisis.
