The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced a party structure verification exercise in Adamawa State to strengthen its organisational base and build confidence among members and voters ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Party leaders, led by Mr Ibrahim Bebetu, recently embarked on a verification tour of the state. He stressed the importance of membership expansion and public awareness in ensuring the party’s acceptability and credibility, describing these steps as vital to securing electoral victory in the current political climate.
Bebetu urged members to resist blackmail and attempts by certain individuals to sow confusion through illegal parallel structures. He said the party has notified the relevant authorities of such activities, and warned that while the NDC welcomes new members, it will not tolerate actions that undermine its integrity.
“Any prospective member must join through the official entrance, not the back door,” he said.
The seven-man verification committee, which Bebetu leads, visited Madagali, Michika, Mubi South, Mubi North and Hong Local Government Areas. The tour focused on strengthening internal structures and holding strategic discussions on the party’s future in the state.
Bebetu reiterated the party’s readiness to support candidates who respect and identify with the NDC, but said it would not back those who disregard its leadership. “Every candidate is subject to the party and should not place him or herself above the party,” he said. “We must come together to secure the victory of the party in the 2027 elections.”
He cited the recent entry of prominent figures, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir D. Lawal, as a major boost to the party’s influence and credibility. He thanked Lawal for the verification exercise, noting that it was an intervention fully supported by him.
Bebetu described Lawal, who also coordinates the Obi/Kwankwaso presidential campaign in the central and north-east regions, as “a blessing to the party and the best thing that has ever happened to the NDC in the sub-region.”
He also commended Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for his foresight, sacrifice and humility in offering himself as running mate to Mr Peter Obi despite resistance in the North, calling the pair a strong match and an intelligent decision.
According to Bebetu, the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket deserves the support of the North. He pointed to the team’s resolve to prioritise the exploration, development and export of crude oil discovered in Bauchi, in the North-East, as well as the establishment of a refinery in Gombe and the development of agriculture, all aimed at strengthening the economic base of the North and the country.
Party elders and members across the state praised the leadership for its resilience and commitment to truth, noting that the statewide tour has reinforced unity and confidence within the party.
In a goodwill message, Elder Peter Katsina of Maiha pledged his community’s support for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket, urging Nigerians to embrace truth, justice and integrity over falsehood and personal interests.
Speaking from Mubi North, Elder Maggai Vimtim said there could be no better choice than the combination of Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, given their pedigree and integrity in Nigerian politics. He added that supporters were determined to galvanise support for the party’s success in Mubi and its environs.
