Orders Immediate Reclamation of Red Brick Market Land, Warns of Evictions and Prosecution
Yola, June 16, 2026 — Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has ordered the immediate revocation of all illegally allocated portions of the Red Brick Market land along Numan Road, declaring the transactions null, void, and contrary to law.
The Governor’s directive follows revelations that sections of the Government-owned market were unlawfully allocated to traders and private individuals by unauthorized persons without statutory approval, due process, or remittance of proceeds to the State Treasury.
Describing the development as a direct assault on public assets and Government authority, Governor Fintiri stated that the illegal allocations violate the provisions of the Land Use Act, the Adamawa State Urban Planning Development Authority (ASUPDA) Law, and established Government regulations governing land administration.
In a decisive move, the Governor has directed the Adamawa State Urban Planning Development Authority (ASUPDA) to immediately take full possession of the affected land and commence reclamation of all illegally occupied portions.
“All illegal occupants are hereby directed to vacate the property with immediate effect. Any person who fails to comply will face forceful eviction and prosecution for criminal trespass,” the Governor declared.
Governor Fintiri also issued a stern warning to Government officials and civil servants involved in the illegal allocation, sale, or transfer of public land, vowing severe consequences for anyone found culpable.
“Any official found to have facilitated, aided, or participated in these illegal transactions will be thoroughly investigated, dismissed from service, and prosecuted. Public office is a sacred trust, and this administration maintains zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, or the exploitation of public assets for personal gain,” he stated.
The Governor further cautioned residents, traders, and prospective buyers against engaging in land transactions with individuals, groups, or syndicates not duly authorized by the Ministry of Lands and Survey and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
“Let it be unequivocally clear that any transaction involving Government land outside approved channels is illegal, null, and void. Those who patronize land racketeers do so at their own risk and stand to lose both the land and their money. Government will not compensate victims of fraudulent transactions. Citizens are strongly advised to verify all allocations with the appropriate authorities before making any payment,” Governor Fintiri warned.
The Governor emphasized that the action has become necessary to safeguard public assets, restore sanity to land administration, strengthen urban planning, protect Government revenue, and preserve the integrity of public markets across the State.
The directive takes immediate effect.
