RAMADAN: CLERIC CALLS FOR RENEWED FAITH, CHARITY, NATIONAL PRAYERS

By Usman Umar Girei

Muslims across the country have been urged to seize the sacred month of Ramadan as a golden opportunity for deep spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and compassion, with a strong focus on actions that earn divine rewards in the hereafter.
The call was made by Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim Girei during an interview with our correspondent in Girei, where he described Ramadan as a divinely endowed season overflowing with blessings, mercy, and immeasurable spiritual gains.
According to the respected Islamic scholar, Ramadan is not merely a period of abstaining from food and drink, but a profound spiritual exercise that demands total obedience to Allah’s commandments. He urged Muslims to strictly observe the rules and regulations guiding the fast, warning that careless actions, utterances, or behaviors could diminish or even invalidate the spiritual rewards of the exercise.
Sheikh Yahya further emphasized that Ramadan is a time for heightened moral consciousness, urging believers to intensify prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, acts of forgiveness, and good conduct toward fellow humans.
In a strong appeal to affluent members of society, the cleric called for increased generosity toward the less privileged, stressing that charity during Ramadan carries multiplied rewards. He noted that feeding the hungry, supporting widows and orphans, and extending kindness to the needy are among the noblest deeds in the holy month.
Turning to national concerns, Sheikh Yahya said Ramadan also offers a solemn moment for collective prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and stability, especially in regions grappling with insecurity and social challenges. He encouraged Muslims to commit the nation into Allah’s hands through sincere supplications.
He concluded with special prayers for the country’s leaders, asking Allah to grant them wisdom, righteousness, and the courage to govern with justice, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.
“Ramadan is a divine invitation for spiritual rebirth and national healing,” the cleric said, urging Muslims to make the most of the holy month for personal transformation and societal good.
