In a move to reinforce unity and cultural heritage, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged Ndigbo and Biafrans to return to their ancestral homeland for the Christmas celebrations. The announcement, made via IPOB’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle and signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, reassures that the Eastern Security Network (ESN) will provide a secure and peaceful atmosphere throughout the festive period.
The statement, issued through IPOB’s Directorate of State (DOS), emphasizes the group’s unwavering commitment to combating insecurity in the South East, a region historically renowned for its harmony and industrious spirit. IPOB highlighted that its ESN operatives are on high alert to counter threats, ensuring that families can celebrate the season without fear.
“Alaigbo has always been a beacon of peace and prosperity, and we are determined to preserve its sanctity,” Comrade Emma Powerful declared. “The festive season is a time for reunions and cultural celebrations, and we invite our people in the diaspora and across Nigeria to come home and reconnect with their roots.”
In its statement, IPOB accused the Nigerian government of contributing to the insecurity in the region through “excessive militarization and systemic subjugation.” The group maintained that while other regions in Nigeria experience relatively better security measures, the South East has been disproportionately targeted, undermining its socio-economic development.
IPOB also called on stakeholders and citizens to collaborate in fostering peace, which it described as a prerequisite for economic growth and cultural preservation. “Security and peace in the South East should mirror the progress seen elsewhere. It is the responsibility of every Igbo son and daughter to contribute to this vision of a safer, more prosperous Alaigbo,” the statement added.
As the festive season approaches, IPOB’s call to action is a rallying cry for Ndigbo to not only celebrate Christmas in their homeland but also reaffirm their collective identity and resilience in the face of challenges. With assurances from the ESN, the group has sent a clear message: Alaigbo remains a haven for all its sons and daughters, and its doors are open for a joyous and secure yuletide.
