In a swift and decisive operation, the police arrested 20-year-old Abubakar Abdu, a resident of Gengle village in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, for allegedly stabbing and killing 30-year-old Azumi Abubakar. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of November 7, 2024, around 3:00 a.m., when Abubakar reportedly broke into Azumi’s home, intending to steal some maize.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Azumi spotted the intruder and recognized him, calling out his name in an attempt to stop him. Realizing that his identity had been exposed, the suspect allegedly attacked her in a violent frenzy, stabbing her fatally with a knife. The assault led to her untimely death, sparking outrage and sorrow within the community.
The arrest was made after the victim’s husband filed an official complaint, prompting the police to launch an immediate investigation. According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Adamawa State, the police are committed to ensuring justice is served swiftly and have promised a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
