“Adamawa Works Commissioner Joins Minister Umahi to Assess Damage on Savannah Road Linking Yola and Gombe”

In a show of proactive leadership and collaboration, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Works, Hon. Adamu Atiku, has announced his joint efforts with the Federal Government to address the devastating impact of heavy rains on a critical federal road. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the commissioner stated that he accompanied the Minister of Works, His Excellency David Umahi, on an inspection of the Savannah road, which links the states of Adamawa and Gombe.

The torrential rains wreaked havoc on the vital highway, washing out significant portions of the road and severing a major transportation artery between the two states. This disruption has caused not only inconvenience for commuters and businesses but also raised concerns about the potential economic and logistical implications for both regions.

Speaking about the situation, Hon. Atiku emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, stating, “In a move to get acquainted with the impact of the heavy downpour that washed out the Savannah road, I joined His Excellency David Umahi, the Minister of Works, on an inspection visit to the site.” His visit, alongside the Minister, underscores the commitment of both the state and federal governments to swiftly restore connectivity and ensure the safety of road users.

This collaborative approach is expected to speed up the process of road rehabilitation, as both governments work together to mitigate the effects of the damage and prevent future occurrences. With the Savannah road being a key link for the movement of goods and services between Yola and Gombe, the repair and restoration of the road is of paramount importance to the local economy and the livelihood of the residents.

Hon. Atiku’s involvement in the inspection further highlights the Adamawa State Government’s dedication to infrastructure development and its responsiveness to emergencies. As efforts are made to ensure that reconstruction commences swiftly, residents remain hopeful that the Savannah road will be restored to full functionality in the shortest possible time.

The inspection visit is a crucial first step toward alleviating the hardship caused by the road’s destruction, as the Ministry of Works evaluates the extent of the damage and plans a robust response to rebuild the critical infrastructure.
