Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has said that his insatiable desire to secure the state from ethnic hostilities and violence has become his strong motivation to increase the capacity of the Taraba State Security Guard Marshall, a local and indigenous security outfit to enhance its operations.
Making this known when he visited the headquarters of the security outfit located along Kona road in Jalingo, the state capital, Dr Kefas emphasized that his administration is determined to deploy every legal means at its disposal to simmer down any ethnic dispute, violent confrontations and external aggression for the purpose of securing the territories of the state.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press secretary to the governor, Yusuf Sanda and made available to Pioneer, the governor reiterated his commitment in boosting and rebranding the security architecture of the state to stimulate wider participation and productivity.
The statement read in part: “the governor has held numerous high-level meetings with security chiefs and traditional leaders, and he has consistently emphasized his strong desire to use all legal means to settle disputes and bring peace to all crises-ridden areas of the state because doing so is a precondition for any real advancement in any society.
“Dr.Kefas visited the Marshall’s heaheadquarters to properly place the organization in the larger new vision of rebranding the outfit and repositioning the state’s security architecture so that the Marshal performs a more active and complementary role to the existing established statutory security agencies.
Governor Agbu had earlier assured the people of the state on assumption of office that “the Taraba Marshal will be revived and strengthened while our administration will ensure operational linkage between local hunters and the Taraba Marshal”.
According to the statement, as part of measures to strengthen the operations of the security outfit, Agbu Kefas has appointed Mr. Agyole Asenya Abeh, a seasoned retired Commissioner of Police, as the Marshal’s commander.
The state government hopes that the Marshal Security Guards established in 2019 will positively engage the younger population and redirect their energies towards productive ventures as opposed to crime and socially unacceptable conduct in line with the vision of the youth-friendly Dr. Agbu Kefas administration.
