2027 POWER GAME: KWANKWASO SIGNALS ALLIANCES, READY FOR PRESIDENCY OR VICE — “NUMBER ONE OR TWO, I’M PREPARED”

Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has thrown the political chessboard wide open ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring his readiness to contest either as President or Vice President, depending on the outcome of negotiations with trusted political allies.
Speaking in Hausa to party faithful and supporters in Kano State, Kwankwaso made it clear that his ambition is not driven by personal ego but by the need to build credible alliances rooted in shared values, strength, and grassroots support.
“What we want first of all are people who agree with us, people we trust and love. Whether I lead as number one or number two, I am ready,” he declared.
In a tone that suggested strategic caution and political maturity, Kwankwaso said his movement is deliberately keeping multiple options open to avoid accusations of secret deals or backroom collusion.
“To avoid false accusations or claims of collusion, we will have option one, option two, option A, option B, and so on,” he said.
The NNPP leader revealed that consultations are ongoing at different levels, stressing that no final decision has been taken on the platform or structure that will carry his political movement into 2027.
Kwankwaso emphasized that his consultations are deeply rooted at the grassroots, particularly in Kano State, where he said post-2023 political grievances are being resolved from the bottom up.
“Whether we move round the grassroots, across Kano State, or stay in one place to prepare acceptance where success is guaranteed, we will do so, by God’s grace,” he assured.
He added that his political strength lies not in elite endorsements alone but in mass followership, describing the grassroots as the true engine of political legitimacy.
In a veiled swipe at transactional politics, Kwankwaso criticised alliances that bring no real value, especially to young people.
“When people say they will bring youths or supporters, we ask: how many? In what form? What exactly have they brought?” he queried.
The statement signals a tougher stance by the Kwankwasiyya movement, which now insists on measurable strength, not vague promises, before sealing any political pact.
TOP POLITICAL FIGURES HOLD TALKS
Kwankwaso disclosed that high-ranking national political figures and party leaders have been engaging his movement in discussions, describing them as “people of dignity and status who did not come casually.”
According to him, talks are ongoing on whether to strengthen the NNPP or enter a broader coalition with other political parties ahead of 2027.
“We have a solid base at the grassroots, and we are hopeful of joining forces—whether within the NNPP or with another party—to move forward together,” he said.
Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, Kwankwaso admitted that disagreements and controversies emerged but insisted that they are now being peacefully resolved, particularly in Kano State.
“Many things were said in 2023, but we are settling them at the grassroots. In Kano State, God willing, there will be no problem at all,” he assured.
Political observers recall that alliance talks between the NNPP and the Labour Party, led by Peter Obi, collapsed ahead of the 2023 presidential election after both camps insisted on producing the presidential candidate, leaving the vice-presidential slot unresolved.
Kwankwaso concluded with a powerful declaration of resolve, portraying his political journey as one anchored on strength, resilience, and dignity—not desperation.
“This journey is one of firm determination. This struggle is based on strength, determination, and dignity,” he said.
As 2027 draws closer, Kwankwaso’s latest declaration positions him once again at the centre of Nigeria’s opposition realignment, with his next move likely to shape the balance of power in the race for Aso Rock.
