Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has ignited intense political tremors after openly suggesting he may walk away from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deepening and unresolved crises within the party’s national leadership.
The governor dropped the political bombshell in Yola, moments after presenting the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Adamawa State House of Assembly, confirming that high-level consultations are underway and a defining political decision is imminent.
“I am a grassroots politician and I have been in the PDP for a very long time,” Fintiri said pointedly.
“I am taking my time before I take a bow. When consultations are concluded, the world will know my next line of action.”
Though he stopped short of announcing a formal defection, political insiders say the groundwork has already been laid, with only the timing of an official declaration left to be decided.
Analysts believe a possible move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would dramatically reshape Adamawa’s political landscape, bolster President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s grip on the North-East ahead of the 2027 general elections, and pose a serious challenge to the long-standing dominance of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on his home turf.
With consultations intensifying behind closed doors and political camps recalibrating, all eyes are now on Fintiri, as Adamawa residents — and the nation — await a move that could redraw the political map ahead of 2027.
