“I Bragged to US, EU Leaders: State Police Will Not Fail in Nigeria” — Tinubu Vows as Insecurity Bites Hard

Daily Post has taken to its online official handle and announced that the, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared unshakeable confidence in the establishment of State Police, assuring both local and international partners that the long-debated security reform will succeed in Nigeria.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting held Thursday at the State House, Abuja, the President revealed that he had confidently “bragged” to leaders of the United States and European Union that Nigeria would record a major turnaround in security once State Police becomes operational.

Tinubu said the conversations with Western leaders were extensive and frank, stressing that the country’s worsening security challenges demand bold, decentralised solutions.

> “I had very long discussions with leaders in the United States and Europe. I told them—confidently—that Nigeria will pass State Police to improve security,” the President disclosed.

According to him, when asked whether he was truly confident the policy would work, his response was unequivocal.

> “They asked me if I was confident, and I said yes. I have a party to depend on. I have a party that will make it happen. And if at this level we fail—God forbid—we will not fail,” Tinubu declared.

The President said he is banking heavily on APC governors across the country to ensure that the proposed State Police structure is properly implemented and insulated from abuse, describing their role as critical to the reform’s success.

Tinubu’s remarks come against the backdrop of rising insecurity nationwide, particularly the recent wave of kidnappings in parts of Kwara and Niger States. In one incident, gunmen believed to be bandits reportedly stormed a church during a live service, abducting worshippers, while another attack targeted a school, further deepening public anxiety.

Security experts and civil society groups have long argued that the centralised policing system has overstretched federal security forces, leaving many communities vulnerable. The renewed push for State Police is therefore seen as a defining moment in Nigeria’s battle against banditry, kidnapping, and violent crime.

With his bold assurances to international partners and a direct charge to APC governors, President Tinubu has now placed significant political capital on the success of State Police—raising expectations that the reform will move from rhetoric to reality.
