Jege community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State was plunged into fear and panic on Monday night, December 15, 2025, as armed bandits launched a brazen overnight attack, abducting an unconfirmed number of residents.
Local sources disclosed that the heavily armed assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and forcing terrified residents to flee for safety before whisking away their victims to an unknown destination.
As of the time of filing this report, details of the attack remain sketchy, with no official statement yet from security agencies or the Kogi State Government. However, residents described the situation as extremely tense, lamenting that the latest attack has further exposed the worsening security situation in parts of Yagba East and its environs.
Community leaders and residents have issued desperate calls for increased security patrols and immediate government intervention, warning that continued inaction could embolden criminal elements and leave rural communities at the mercy of bandits.
The Jege attack comes barely hours after SaharaReporters reported the abduction of the elder brother of the Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, Mr. Tosin Oluokun. The victim was reportedly kidnapped earlier on Monday while working on his farm within Yagba West LGA, highlighting the growing danger faced by farmers across the region.
In another alarming incident, no fewer than 20 worshippers were reportedly abducted on Sunday when gunmen attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the church during an ongoing worship session, firing shots into the air to create panic before seizing an undisclosed number of congregants and escaping through nearby bush paths.
The coordinated nature and frequency of these attacks have thrown otherwise peaceful communities into chaos, leaving residents gripped by fear and uncertainty. With banditry and kidnappings now occurring in farms, homes, and places of worship, pressure is mounting on security agencies and the government to act decisively to stem the tide of violence before more lives are disrupted.
