BREAKING: Ex-Anambra Governor Chris Ngige Dramatically Arrested in Abuja in Midnight EFCC Raid

Former Anambra State Governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has been dramatically arrested by security operatives during a late-night operation at his Abuja residence, sparking nationwide shock and speculation.

The arrest took place at his home on Justice Mohammed Bello Street, Abuja, under tense circumstances. Witnesses reported the presence of heavily armed operatives, though the identity of the agency initially remained unclear, fueling early rumours of a possible kidnap.

However, by dawn on Thursday, multiple credible sources confirmed that the operation was carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that Ngige was “humiliated during the arrest,” stressing that the operation was strictly an EFCC-led action, not an abduction.
According to him, “It was an EFCC operation, not a kidnap. They came prepared.”

Shortly after, Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, issued a terse confirmation, saying:
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has made no official statement, leaving the allegations or reasons for Ngige’s arrest shrouded in mystery.

A Pattern of High-Drama Incidents

The development comes barely days after Ngige’s convoy was attacked in Anambra State by gunmen, leaving a police officer shot and several others injured. The former minister was not in the affected vehicle during the ambush.

Ngige is no stranger to dramatic political turmoil. In 2003, while serving as governor, he was infamously abducted by political actors in an incident that gripped the nation and exposed the deep-seated power struggles in Anambra politics.

With his latest arrest, many Nigerians are already drawing parallels and anticipating yet another unfolding political storm.

More details are expected as the EFCC prepares to clarify the circumstances surrounding the high-profile operation.
