In a bold and reassuring declaration, the Senator representing Kebbi South, Garba Maidoki, has expressed strong optimism that the schoolgirls abducted earlier this week will return home within the next one or two days.
Speaking during a current affairs programme on Wednesday, Senator Maidoki revealed that security operatives have established a clear fix on the kidnappers’ location and are closing in with precision.
> “We have a fair idea where the girls are, and we are sure they have not moved outside the Kebbi South Senatorial District,” he stated confidently.
“There is high hope that the girls will return home in one or two days.”
His remarks come as the nation remains on edge following the shocking abduction of at least 25 female students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, on Monday.
According to the Kebbi State Police Command, heavily armed bandits launched the deadly operation around 4 a.m., engaging security personnel in a fierce gun duel before breaching the school’s perimeter fence and abducting the students from their hostel.
The assault left one staff member, Hassan Makuku, dead and another, Ali Shehu, critically injured after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Police spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, confirmed the invasion in an official statement, noting that additional tactical units — supported by the military and vigilante groups — had been deployed to pursue the attackers and rescue the missing girls.
National Outrage and Renewed Demands for Action
The incident has reignited nationwide anger and demands for decisive action against the unending wave of banditry plaguing the North-West. Citizens, activists, and stakeholders have decried the worsening security situation, calling for firmer strategies and accountability.
In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday reissued a stern directive to security agencies:
> “President Tinubu reiterates his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home safe.”
The presidency emphasized that rescuing the students remains a top national priority.
Rising Hope Amid Intensified Operations
As security forces intensify search and rescue operations across forested axes of Kebbi South, Senator Maidoki’s confident tone has offered a glimmer of hope to anxious parents and citizens across the country.
With tactical deployments strengthened and multiple agencies closing ranks, there is growing belief that the abducted schoolgirls may indeed return home within the senator’s projected timeline.
Nigeria now watches, prays, and waits — hoping the next 48 hours will bring relief, closure, and justice.
