…Chaos, Counter-Statements Force NEC Meeting to Wednesday
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was thrust into high political drama on Tuesday as its national leadership reclaimed control of the party’s headquarters, Wadata Plaza, from loyalists of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a tense confrontation that briefly rattled the heart of the opposition party.
National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), flanked by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, triumphantly addressed the press moments after order was restored. He confirmed that the scheduled meeting of the party’s leadership had been postponed to Wednesday, 19th November 2025, following what he described as “deliberate acts of sabotage.”
According to Turaki, the chaos erupted after fake social media fliers—allegedly circulated by individuals “who are no longer members of the party”—announced a phantom National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the secretariat.
“These are enemies of progress, enemies of democracy,” Turaki declared, insisting that no illegal faction could dictate the party’s direction.
He praised the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police for ensuring unrestricted access into Wadata Plaza, saying the intervention enabled the legitimate party leadership to retake the building peacefully and decisively.
Governor Makinde arrived in company of the newly elected National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, signalling a united front within the mainstream PDP bloc. Meanwhile, the suspension of Nyesom Wike remains active, despite counterclaims from Samuel Anyanwu—the embattled former National Secretary—who maintains that his tenure lasts until December 8, 2025.
Tuesday’s showdown marks yet another chapter in the fierce internal battle for the soul of Nigeria’s oldest opposition party, as the PDP leadership moves to assert full authority and shut down parallel structures loyal to Wike.
