PDP IN TURMOIL: Wike-Led Faction Convenes Emergency NEC Meeting as Expulsion Crisis Explodes

Gistreel has shared on it’s online platform that, a fresh wave of tension has swept through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has summoned an emergency meeting of its highest decision-making organs. The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday in Abuja, signals a deepening crisis following the controversial expulsion of several prominent party figures.

The faction, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced that the Board of Trustees (BoT) will meet at 11 a.m., followed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) at 2 p.m., both at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza.

In the notice issued by Samuel Anyanwu, a close ally of Wike, members were sternly warned that attendance is “compulsory as critical decisions affecting the party’s future will be taken.”

This session marks the 103rd emergency NEC meeting in the party’s history — a clear sign of the PDP’s mounting internal unrest.

The meetings come on the heels of the shocking announcement expelling Nyesom Wike, Samuel Anyanwu, and former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, among others, over alleged anti-party activities. The sweeping decision also affected Umar Bature, Dan Orbih, George Turner, Mao Ohabunwa, Ajibade Kamarudeen, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and two others.

The expulsions have not only inflamed existing internal divides but have triggered a wave of backlash from within the party’s power blocs.

Governors Rebel, Party Divided

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri have openly distanced themselves from the expulsion exercise, insisting that the matter was neither deliberated upon at the PDP Governors’ Forum nor sanctioned at any previous NEC meeting.

Their disavowal further deepens suspicions of a fractured leadership struggling to maintain cohesion.

Some of the expelled figures have also rejected the decision outright. George Turner, one of those affected, dismissed the announcement as “politically motivated” and reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Wike.

What Next for the PDP?

As the party braces for Tuesday’s high-stakes meetings, political observers say the outcome could either trigger a full-blown implosion or mark the beginning of a fierce internal restructuring battle.

One thing is clear:
The PDP is entering one of the most turbulent chapters in its history — and all eyes will be on Wadata Plaza on Tuesday.
