Governors of Plateau and Adamawa States, Caleb Muftwang and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have publicly distanced themselves from the purported expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the move as ill-timed, divisive, and lacking legitimacy.
A statement issued by Gyang Bere, media aide to Governor Caleb Muftwang, emphasized that the Plateau State Governor had no involvement whatsoever in the controversial decision.
According to the statement:
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike; former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
Muftwang clarified that the matter was never tabled before the PDP Governors’ Forum nor deliberated upon at the National Executive Committee (NEC) before being presented, stressing that the proposal in no way reflects his stance or the collective position of the governors.
He warned that expelling key party figures at such a fragile moment would only deepen the PDP’s internal cracks rather than resolve them. He called for unity, dialogue, and a renewed commitment to rebuilding and repositioning the party.
In a similar vein, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri issued a strong-worded disclaimer, firmly rejecting the move and urging party stakeholders to avoid actions capable of worsening the PDP’s challenges.
In his statement, Governor Fintiri declared:
“I, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, @GovWike, from @OfficialPDPNig (PDP). I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stressing that the only sustainable path forward is peace, reconciliation, and unity—not punitive measures that risk fracturing the party beyond repair.
“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration.”
Governor Fintiri urged all party stakeholders to prioritize healing, bridge-building, and collective progress.
“Let me reiterate that my position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal.”
With two influential governors openly disowning the controversial action, the PDP now faces mounting pressure to clarify the legitimacy of the purported expulsions and chart a unified path forward amid growing internal tensions.
