YOLA — In a stirring call to the next generation, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged Muslim youths across Adamawa State to deepen their devotion to Qur’anic education while embracing modern learning as a pathway to a balanced and enlightened society.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Housing Development, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Prambe, at the closing ceremony of the 40th Adamawa State Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, the governor praised the participants for their dedication to the Holy Qur’an and the preservation of Islamic values.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the state’s educational landscape now offers unprecedented opportunities for young people to blend Qur’anic scholarship with Western education, noting that many institutions in the state integrate both systems effectively.
> “Our youths must seize this dual opportunity,” the governor urged. “Knowledge of the Qur’an enriches the soul, while Western education equips the mind — together, they build the future of our state.”
He further appealed to citizens to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and united, stressing that harmony among diverse communities remains the cornerstone of Adamawa’s progress.
Also addressing the gathering, Ustaz Sufyanu Jimeta, Chairman of the Council of Ulama, Yola North Chapter, encouraged more youths to participate in future competitions — not for material gain but for spiritual upliftment and divine blessings.
> “The true reward,” he reminded, “is not in the prize, but in Allah’s pleasure and the knowledge one carries for life.”
The ceremony reached its climax when Ahmed Abdulqadir of Yola South emerged as the overall winner. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ahmed thanked Almighty Allah, his parents, and his tutor for their unwavering support. He pledged to make Adamawa proud as he represents the state at the national Qur’anic recitation competition in Borno State in the coming weeks.
The event, which drew scholars, traditional leaders, government officials, and hundreds of faithful, celebrated not only memorization of the Qur’an but also the enduring role of faith in shaping a morally sound and intellectually vibrant society.
