The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 96 percent of results from the Anambra governorship election have been successfully uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), marking a significant step in the nation’s evolving digital electoral process.

According to Tribune Online, data from the Commission showed that 5,535 out of 5,720 polling units — representing 96.77 percent — had their results transmitted as of the time of reporting. The swift upload, observers say, reflects INEC’s improved operational efficiency and commitment to transparency.

The election, which featured 16 candidates across various political parties, saw the incumbent governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), seeking re-election amid keen interest from rival contenders. Voting commenced across the 21 local government areas of the state at 8:30 a.m. and officially concluded by 2:30 p.m., under generally peaceful conditions.

INEC had earlier disclosed that 2,769,137 out of 2,802,790 registered voters — an impressive 98.8 percent — had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before election day. The figure, described by analysts as unprecedented, underscored the electorate’s enthusiasm and the growing faith in the electoral process.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, commended the high PVC collection rate, describing it as “a remarkable demonstration of civic engagement and trust in the democratic system.” He further noted that the success of the IReV platform demonstrates the Commission’s resolve to deepen electoral transparency and accountability.

> “The IReV portal has continued to serve as a real-time window into the voting process,” Amupitan said. “Our goal is to ensure that Nigerians can monitor and verify results as they come in, reinforcing confidence in the integrity of the outcome.”

Political observers regard the Anambra governorship election as a crucial litmus test for INEC’s preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in its use of digital infrastructure and data transmission systems. The smooth upload of results, they argue, may signal a new era of credible and technology-driven elections in Nigeria.

As collation continues, INEC has assured the public that every uploaded result will undergo thorough verification to ensure accuracy and fairness. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the process, urging political parties and the public to remain patient and law-abiding.

With attention fixed on the final outcome, the Anambra poll stands as both a political contest and a demonstration of Nigeria’s steady march toward electoral modernization — one in which technology, transparency, and trust continue to shape the nation’s democratic future.
