BREAKING: Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s Brother, Lawyer Freed From Kuje Prison Amid Jubilation

There was jubilation in Abuja on Monday as human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother to the separatist leader, regained their freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre after meeting their bail conditions.

The trio, along with several others, had been arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held last week in Abuja. Sowore, who led the demonstration, was apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force shortly after visiting the Federal High Court, Abuja, where Kanu’s trial was being heard.

They were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Kuje Area Council, which granted them bail on Friday, paving the way for their release.

A video published by Sahara Reporters on Monday captured the moment Sowore, Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel, and others walked out of the prison premises, singing solidarity songs and raising their fists in triumph. Supporters outside the facility erupted in cheers as the activists emerged, hailing their resilience and courage.

Reports had earlier surfaced that Ejimakor collapsed in custody and was rushed to the Kuje Prison clinic for urgent medical attention, sparking outrage from rights groups and IPOB supporters who condemned the alleged harsh treatment of detainees.

Their release has reignited calls for the unconditional freedom of Nnamdi Kanu, whose continued detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) remains a flashpoint in Nigeria’s political and human rights landscape.

With tensions simmering, observers say Monday’s development could further galvanize the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaign, as activists and sympathizers vow to sustain pressure on the Federal Government to respect court orders and uphold the rule of law.
