Fintiri leads party’s push for unity and transparency as Ibadan hosts 2025 elective convention
In a decisive step toward its much-anticipated 2025 Elective National Convention, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named former Ondo State governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), as Chairman of the National Convention Screening Committee.
The announcement was made on Saturday in Abuja by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, who also serves as Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC).
Fintiri disclosed that Jegede will lead a 13-member high-powered committee charged with screening all aspirants vying for national positions in the forthcoming convention scheduled to hold November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Fintiri, the screening exercise will take place on Tuesday, setting the stage for what the party describes as a transparent, fair, and credible selection process.
Other key members of the committee include Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Asue Ighodalo as Secretary, and Mr. Jacob Otorkpa as Deputy Secretary.
The list also features prominent party figures such as Emmanuel Enoidem, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chief (Mrs.) Aduke Maina, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Achike Udenwa, Maryam Ciroma, Felix Hyat, Zainab Maina, and Chinedu Nwachukwu, who will serve as Member/Administrative Secretary.
Governor Fintiri expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to uphold the highest standards of fairness, discipline, and integrity throughout the exercise.
> “The NCOC expects the committee to demonstrate exemplary conduct and strict adherence to the party’s constitution, rules, and guidelines during this crucial assignment. The confidence reposed in you by our great party must be justified,” Fintiri stated.
As the PDP braces for the Ibadan convention, all eyes are on the party’s leadership to deliver a process that will not only strengthen internal democracy but also project unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
