As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, a leading aspirant under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, has held a closed-door meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja.

Fayose, who paid a courtesy visit to Atiku at his residence, said the meeting focused on consultations regarding the political future of Ekiti and the need for unity among progressive forces committed to credible leadership in the state.

Speaking shortly after the meeting, Fayose described the Waziri of Adamawa as “a tested democrat and an embodiment of courage, patriotism, and selfless service.”

> “Your Excellency is a democratic icon par excellence — a man with remarkable experience, uncommon courage, and a deep commitment to the unity and progress of our country. You have always been a source of inspiration to those of us who believe in a better Nigeria,” Fayose said.

He added that Atiku remains one of Nigeria’s most experienced and liberal-minded politicians whose contributions to democracy and national development cannot be overlooked.

> “Over the years, both in and out of office, the former vice president has continued to inspire hope among Nigerians. He has shown resilience, vision, and a passion for good governance,” Fayose stated.

The ADC aspirant, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC, said he had a “fruitful and progressive” discussion with Atiku, whom he has supported for more than a decade.

He noted that the ADC in Ekiti State remains united and determined to present a credible alternative to the people in the forthcoming election.

> “There is unity of purpose among our aspirants in ADC. We are focused on providing leadership that will restore the confidence of our people. Whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer will receive the support of all,” he added.

Political observers believe Fayose’s meeting with Atiku may signal a strategic alignment and renewed consultations among key political actors as the race for Ekiti’s top seat intensifies.
