Sowore Raises Alarm: “Nnamdi Kanu Gravely Ill — History Repeating June 12 Tragedy”

Says Judiciary Being Used As Weapon Of Oppression, Warns Against Another “State-Sponsored Sacrifice”

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed deep concern over the condition of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, warning that Nigeria may be witnessing a tragic repeat of the events surrounding the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola and the June 12 struggle.

In a post on his official X handle, Sowore recalled his involvement in the June 12 movement, alleging that the same pattern of judicial manipulation used to suppress Abiola’s mandate in 1993 is being replayed in Kanu’s ongoing trial.

> “I was deeply involved in the struggle for the validation of the June 12 election,” he wrote. “I remember vividly how the system operated back then — how they weaponized the judiciary to buy time, deceive the public, and justify injustice. They kept saying ‘Abiola’s case is in court’, using that as a shield for tyranny, until they eventually killed him a day before his supposed release. It was a well-orchestrated tragedy disguised as legal processes.”

Sowore alleged that the same tactics are now being employed against Nnamdi Kanu, describing the unfolding events as “a replay of a familiar tragedy.”

> “Today, I see the same manipulation, the same excuses, fake narrators, fake protesters, the same abuse of process. The language has not changed; only the victims have,” he said.

He warned that Kanu’s health has deteriorated significantly, describing his appearance during his last court session on October 16 as alarming.

> “The Nnamdi Kanu I saw in court on October 16 is very ill. We must rescue him before another citizen is sacrificed to the bloodthirsty Nigerian elite club,” Sowore stated.

He called on Nigerians and the international community to intervene before, in his words, “another life is wasted under the guise of legal proceedings.”

Sowore concluded his post with the hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, urging citizens to demand justice and resist what he termed “a recurring cycle of oppression.”
