Board fixes October–December deadlines; names defaulting institutions; vows to reassign unprocessed candidates to other schools.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has drawn the battle line for all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, announcing strict deadlines for the 2025 admission exercise and warning that any university, polytechnic, or college that fails to meet the set timelines will forfeit all unprocessed candidates.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the decision was one of the critical resolutions reached at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.
Benjamin revealed that the admission window officially runs from October 30 to December 31, 2025, across all categories of tertiary institutions.
> “At the 2025 Policy Meeting chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, critical resolutions were reached regarding the timelines for the 2025 admissions exercise,” Benjamin stated.
CATEGORY DEADLINES
Public Universities: must complete and submit all recommended admissions on or before October 31, 2025.
Private Universities: deadline fixed for November 30, 2025.
Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Other Institutions: must wrap up their processes by December 31, 2025.
Benjamin explained that the policy was designed to maintain a structured, transparent, and predictable academic calendar across all institutions in the country.
> “These timelines are meant to instil order and accountability in the system, ensuring that all institutions work within an organized framework,” he noted.
Despite repeated reminders, JAMB said some institutions have failed to submit any admission lists to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) — the official platform through which all admissions are conducted.
The Board expressed dismay that certain universities had ignored the directives, even after the expiration of the initial submission date.
> “It is particularly worrisome that some public universities have not made a single submission since the September deadline elapsed,” Benjamin said.
Institutions specifically mentioned include:
Northwest University, Kano (Kano State)
Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil (Kano State)
Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil (Kano State)
Benue State University, Makurdi (Benue State)
Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna (Niger State)
Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna (Kaduna State)
Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo (Oyo State)
Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua (Katsina State)
TOUGH WARNING FOR NON-COMPLIANCE
JAMB has ordered the affected institutions to commence their 2025 admission processes immediately or risk losing all pending candidates.
> “Failure to act within the approved timelines will result in all unprocessed candidates being automatically reassigned to the next available institutions for consideration,” Benjamin warned.
He stressed that even institutions not ready to resume academic sessions are still expected to process and archive admissions in line with the approved schedule.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on laxity, JAMB said it remains committed to transparency, fairness, and discipline in the nation’s admission system.
> “Every institution, whether public or private, must adhere strictly to the approved timelines. The era of endless and disorderly admissions is over,” the Board declared.
With the firm deadlines now set, JAMB says it is determined to enforce compliance, order, and equity in the 2025 admission process — a move aimed at sanitizing Nigeria’s tertiary education system and ending years of academic irregularities and calendar disruptions.
