Wear Tinubu Cap Or Leave EXCO – Gov Okpebholo Warns Commissioners

…Says Appointment Possible Because Of Responsible President
…Vows To Sack Corrupt, Disloyal Officials

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, stunned the audience at the Government House, Benin City, when he ordered commissioners and political appointees in his cabinet to always wear the ‘Asiwaju Cap’—popularly known as the Tinubu Cap—to Executive Council meetings or risk being sent out.

The governor, who spoke during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 new commissioners and members of various boards, said the symbolic cap was not just a fashion item but a mark of loyalty and appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he credited for the stability and progress of the state.

> “Before we begin, I want to say this could not have happened if we did not have a responsible President,” Okpebholo said, lifting his cap before the audience.
“You see this cap I am wearing? It represents our President. I will not forgive any commissioner who refuses to wear it. If you come to EXCO wearing a traditional dress without this Asiwaju cap, you are going back.”

The hall, filled with party faithful and dignitaries, erupted in laughter, but the governor’s tone quickly turned firm as he warned that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline, corruption, or acts of betrayal.

According to him, the new appointments were based strictly on merit and a commitment to service delivery, not as political rewards.

> “Your nominations are not rewards or patronage, but a call to serve the people of Edo State,” he declared.
“Our administration came into office with a clear focus on practical governance that touches lives directly. We will not waste time on propaganda. Our concern is tangible results that can be felt in every community across our state.”

He charged the appointees to work diligently, assuring that his government would be result-driven and people-oriented.

Speaking on behalf of the new commissioners, Festus Ebea thanked Governor Okpebholo for the opportunity to serve, pledging total loyalty and alignment with his vision for a better Edo State.

> “We appreciate your confidence in us, Your Excellency,” Ebea said. “We will not disappoint you or the people of Edo State. We are fully committed to your developmental agenda.”

The ceremony, attended by top APC leaders, traditional rulers, and senior government officials, underscored Governor Okpebholo’s effort to strengthen his political base while consolidating ties with the presidency ahead of future elections.
