DSS Nabs Two Dismissed Operatives Impersonating Agency For Fraud — Moves To Expose More Ex-Staff Behind Scams

Sahara reporters has taken to its official X handle and announced that,Th Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended two dismissed officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly using the Service’s identity to perpetrate fraud and deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, the secret police disclosed that the suspects, who were previously dismissed from service, had been “cloaking under the DSS” to engage in various criminal activities under false pretenses.

“Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) recently issued disclaimers on two dismissed personnel — Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin — who were alleged to be using the Service’s name for fraudulent activities. These individuals have now been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement read.

The DSS reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity within its ranks, adding that it would no longer tolerate any misuse of its identity by former operatives.

To safeguard the public from similar scams, the agency also announced plans to publish the names of all previously dismissed personnel, warning that some might still be posing as serving officers to defraud innocent citizens.

“The Service has further resolved to make public the names of other dismissed personnel to protect unsuspecting members of the public from falling victim to criminal activities by these individuals,” the statement added.

The arrests follow earlier public warnings by the DSS about the activities of the two former staff. On October 9, 2025, the Service issued a disclaimer against Barry Donald, who was reportedly using the DSS name to extort money from unsuspecting victims. Four days later, on October 13, the DSS again cautioned the public against Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who was allegedly defrauding Nigerians while impersonating a serving officer.

In both instances, the DSS took to its official X (formerly Twitter) account to urge Nigerians to exercise vigilance and verify the authenticity of anyone claiming to represent the Service.

Security experts have hailed the DSS for acting swiftly to clamp down on impostors, describing the move as a significant step toward restoring public confidence in the nation’s intelligence community.

With these arrests, the Service sends a clear message — no one, not even a former insider, will be allowed to tarnish the integrity of Nigeria’s foremost intelligence agency.
