Police Suspend Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement After Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of its enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits across the country.

The Force made the announcement in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, citing a recent court order directing an immediate halt to the exercise.

According to the statement, the suspension takes effect immediately, as the Police move to comply fully with the court’s directive.

“The Nigeria Police Force hereby suspends the enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits pending the outcome of the ongoing legal processes,” the statement read.

The decision comes after weeks of public concern and legal challenges over the manner of enforcement, which many motorists described as arbitrary and prone to abuse by security personnel.

The tinted glass permit policy was originally introduced as a security measure to check criminal use of obscured vehicles, but it has faced widespread criticism from human rights advocates and civil society groups.

The Force assured that it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public trust while reviewing its policies in line with judicial pronouncements.

Motorists nationwide are therefore advised to take note of the suspension while awaiting further directives from the Police authorities.
