2027 SHOWDOWN: Tinubu Will Fall If Atiku, Jonathan Enter Race – Ex-VP’s Aide Declares

A storm is already brewing ahead of the 2027 presidential election as Demola Olarewaju, Senior Political Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lose his grip on power if Atiku and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan decide to contest.

Speaking during an explosive interview on the Mic On podcast on Saturday, Olarewaju argued that the combination of Atiku and Jonathan on different platforms would spell electoral disaster for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, Jonathan still commands massive goodwill among Nigerians and would easily rally nationwide support if he emerges victorious in a credible party primary.

> “If Goodluck Jonathan can come into the primaries, contest, and win in a competitive process, we will all support him,” Olarewaju declared.

When asked what would happen if Jonathan clinched the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while Atiku pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olarewaju was blunt:

> “APC loses. The ruling party will have no solid base in 2027 if Jonathan flies the PDP flag and Atiku or any other heavyweight contests under the ADC.”

In a fiery critique of his own party, the PDP, Olarewaju admitted that the once-dominant opposition has lost its national appeal and now operates largely as a regional vehicle.

“The PDP is no longer the national force it used to be. It has become a mere instrument for advancing ethnic ambitions. While it may still hold influence in certain states, in terms of national politics, the PDP is no longer fit for purpose,” he said.

With the political temperature rising and power blocs re-strategizing, Olarewaju’s remarks signal the possibility of a titanic clash in 2027—one that could upend Nigeria’s political landscape and put President Tinubu’s second-term ambition to the ultimate test.
