2027 SHOWDOWN: APC Vows Jonathan’s Defeat, Says ‘ADC Too Weak, Victory Will Be Easy’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring that former President Goodluck Jonathan stands no chance of victory—no matter the political platform he chooses.

APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, in a fiery statement, dismissed speculations about Jonathan’s rumored romance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding the party as “disorganized and without political weight.”

“Jonathan was soundly defeated in 2015 when he had the full backing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party that once boasted of ruling Nigeria for 60 years,” Ibrahim told Punch. “How then can he possibly stand a chance in 2027 under the ADC—a party that lacks structure, organisation, or national relevance?”

The remarks come amid swirling reports that Jonathan has been holding strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 polls. On September 12, he met with Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer, Peter Obi, in Abuja. Barely two weeks later, on September 25, he was spotted in discussions with ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, alongside other coalition leaders. However, Jonathan has yet to make a formal declaration about his political future.

But Ibrahim insists the ruling APC is unfazed:
“With the overwhelming support of Nigerians that the APC enjoys, defeating Jonathan again will be easy. Whether he runs under the PDP, the ADC, or any other banner, the APC will crush him at the ballot.”

As Jonathan continues to keep Nigerians guessing about his next political move, APC’s fiery confidence sets the stage for what could be a high-stakes battle in 2027.
