Shock as Security Foils Planned Campus Clash During Signing-Out Celebration
Port Harcourt — In a dramatic sting that has sent shockwaves through Rivers State, a serving police corporal and a University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) undergraduate were arrested for allegedly plotting a bloody cult clash on campus.
The police officer, identified as Corporal Onwukwe Godswill, attached to the Elimgbu Division of the Rivers State Police Command, was apprehended alongside Ifeanyi Israel, a 200-level Biomedical Technology student of UNIPORT. The duo were allegedly preparing to unleash violence during the “signing out” festivities of final-year students.
According to a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects were intercepted on September 26, 2025, at about 4:00 pm, after UNIPORT’s internal security raised an alarm over their suspicious movements.
> “The University’s Internal Security confronted Corporal Onwukwe Godswill and undergraduate Ifeanyi Israel in anticipation of a clash with rival cultists on campus. Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU) swiftly moved in and effected their arrest,” the statement read.
Weapons Cache Recovered
A search at the scene led to the shocking discovery of dangerous weapons — two locally made pistols, four rounds of live cartridges, two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and a small axe.
The trail didn’t end there. A subsequent raid on Corporal Onwukwe’s residence revealed another pistol and two machetes, raising concerns over the scale of his involvement in armed cult activities despite being a serving officer of the law.
The suspects are currently cooling their heels in police custody as investigations intensify to unravel their network, possible sponsors, and links to other cult-related crimes in the state.
Authorities say the arrests underscore the disturbing infiltration of cult groups by individuals who should be protecting society. Security analysts have warned that the incident highlights the dangerous nexus between rogue security operatives and campus cultism — a combination that could fuel insecurity if not urgently curtailed.
