Troops Smash Fake Police Syndicate in Taraba: Two Arrested, Over 1,000 Blocks of Cannabis Seized in Operation Lafiya Nakowa

The Nigerian Army has scored another major victory in the war against crime and narcotics in Taraba State, as troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working hand-in-hand with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), intercepted and arrested two fake policemen ferrying a massive consignment of cannabis.

The operation, part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa aimed at flushing out bandits and criminal cartels, took place at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

The suspects, who brazenly donned mobile police uniforms, were found in possession of two Toyota Hilux vans stacked with 1,134 blocks of cannabis, traced to have been loaded from Akure, Ondo State, and destined for Adamawa.

One of the impostors has been identified as Monday George, a 71-year-old dismissed Police Assistant Superintendent (ASP), and the other as 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche. In a dramatic twist, occupants of the second Hilux abandoned their vehicle and fled the scene upon sighting the troops, leaving behind the narcotics haul.

The seized vehicles and drugs, along with the arrested suspects, have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the troops and NDLEA operatives for their “synergy, resilience, and dogged commitment to making Taraba a no-go zone for criminals.” He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to support ongoing security operations.

The bust marks yet another resounding success in the intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and organized crime networks across the region.
