RULAAC Demands Probe Of Wike, Wife Over $6m Florida Properties Scandal — Tells AGF Fagbemi: “Integrity Cannot Be Selective”

The storm swirling around Nigeria’s corridors of power has intensified as the Rule of Law Accountability and Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) called on Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to widen his ongoing probe into alleged illicit foreign property acquisitions — this time, targeting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of the Court of Appeal.

In a strongly worded statement issued Wednesday, RULAAC’s Executive Director, Mr. Okechukwu Nwanguma, urged the AGF to demonstrate that the fight against corruption is not a weapon of convenience wielded only against selected individuals.

“When AGF Fagbemi announced a probe into the UK property scandal involving senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome, SAN, he struck a chord with Nigerians who crave accountability in high places. But integrity cannot be applied selectively,” Nwanguma declared.

According to him, the allegations against Wike and his wife are far more “egregious” and demand urgent scrutiny. He cited revelations by activist Omoyele Sowore, who accused the couple of acquiring over $6 million worth of luxury properties in Florida through suspicious cash transactions later transferred into the names of their children. The transactions, critics argue, bypassed banking regulations, raising red flags of possible money laundering, and were reportedly never declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

“If proven true, this would not only shame a sitting minister, a former governor, and a senior judicial officer,” Nwanguma warned, “it would constitute a direct assault on the rule of law.”

He cautioned that pursuing Ozekhome while ignoring Wike would deepen public suspicion that President Bola Tinubu’s government is shielding powerful allies from accountability.

“Selective justice breeds distrust,” he added. “If the AGF turns a blind eye to Wike, it will confirm that the so-called anti-corruption crusade is nothing but hollow rhetoric.”

To restore faith in Nigeria’s justice system, RULAAC demanded that the allegations against Wike and his wife be referred to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the National Judicial Council (NJC) for immediate investigation.

“The AGF must prove that no one — lawyer, minister, or judge — is above the law,” Nwanguma said, while calling on civil society, the media, and ordinary Nigerians to demand accountability. “The integrity of the justice system, and indeed the nation, hangs in the balance.”
