Shock and confusion have gripped residents of Warri, Delta State, following the sudden death of a 60-year-old American woman, Jacqueline Bolling Elton, who was on a private visit to her Nigerian companion.
Elton, who reportedly arrived Warri on September 15 to spend time with her friend, 39-year-old Alawode Olaide, was said to have taken ill under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, September 29, around 3:00 p.m.
Sources disclosed that she was rushed to a private hospital in Otokutu, but her condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting doctors to refer her to the Central Hospital, Warri. Tragically, she was confirmed dead on arrival.
Authorities were immediately notified of the incident. A police team visited the residence and subsequently placed Olaide in custody for questioning over the circumstances surrounding Elton’s sudden demise.
The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary for autopsy as investigators move to unravel the cause of death. The case is expected to be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.
The shocking incident has sparked intense speculation among locals, with many questioning what might have led to Elton’s tragic end during her visit.
