NNPP Chieftain Says With Kano’s 8 Million Voters, Only 300 Electoral Areas Needed To Capture Aso Rock

Buba Galadima, elder statesman and chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has dropped a political bombshell, declaring that Kano State alone holds the decisive key to Nigeria’s presidential elections.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Galadima asserted that with over eight million registered voters, Kano has the power to determine who emerges as Nigeria’s next president.
“If all Kano people could come out to vote, you only need 300 of them plus to win the presidency,” Galadima said emphatically.
He drew a sharp comparison between Kano’s voter strength and the total votes that brought President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to power in 2023, stressing that the numbers in Kano alone rival the margin of victory at the national level.
According to him, dismissing Kano as just a regional stronghold is a costly mistake for any politician. “Kano is the most strategic state in terms of electoral numbers. Whoever commands its loyalty already has a highway to Aso Rock,” he noted.
The NNPP leader further argued that Nigeria’s presidential contest is less about winning every state, and more about securing key voting blocs capable of tipping the balance. In his view, Kano remains the ultimate bloc, one that can tilt the scales in favour of a determined candidate.
Galadima also emphasized the enduring influence of former Kano governor and NNPP presidential flag bearer, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing him as “one of the few politicians capable of consistently delivering Kano.”
“Kano’s eight million registered voters give it a unique advantage. Controlling Kano provides a solid base for victory because Nigeria’s presidency requires just about 300 electoral areas nationwide,” he reiterated.
As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, Galadima’s remarks sharpen the spotlight on Kano, re-igniting debates over regional dominance, voter mobilisation, and the growing weight of Kwankwaso’s political machinery.
