2027 POLLS: Jonathan, Osinbajo, Kwankwaso, Obi, Jega, Others Set For Explosive National Dialogue On Electoral Reforms

As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, the nation’s political landscape is about to witness a historic convergence of heavyweight leaders and reform advocates.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex–Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi will on October 1st share the same stage in a high-powered National Dialogue on Electoral Reforms.

The dialogue, scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, will also feature respected voices like former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, fiery activist and ex-Senator Shehu Sani, ex-Education Minister Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and renowned political economist Prof. Pat Utomi.

Convened by the National Consultative Front (NCFront) in partnership with the Labour and Civil Society Front (LCSF), the Nigeria Electoral Reforms Coalition (NERCO), and other pro-democracy groups, the event is expected to ignite far-reaching debates on how to safeguard the 2027 elections from manipulation and restore public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Labour leaders including NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC leader Festus Osofo have also been invited, alongside top government functionaries such as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and key members of the National Assembly Committees on Electoral Reforms.

Organisers say the dialogue will push for bold constitutional amendments, new policy frameworks, and systemic changes that would guarantee credible, transparent, and violence-free elections in 2027 and beyond.

With the country grappling with widespread disillusionment over past polls, analysts believe this rare gathering of political titans, reformers, and civil society actors could shape Nigeria’s democratic destiny.
