BREAKING: Governor Bala Mohammed Sacks Women’s Affairs Commissioner in Sudden Cabinet Shake-Up

Bauchi State was thrown into political suspense on Monday as Governor Bala Mohammed announced the immediate dismissal of his Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Baban-Takko.

The governor’s decision, contained in an official statement from the Government House, marks a dramatic shake-up within the State Executive Council.

“In that respect, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Baban-Takko, has been relieved of her appointment with immediate effect. The governor thanks the honourable commissioner for her services to the State and wishes her success in her future endeavours,” the statement read.

Hajiya Zainab, who has been a visible figure in Bauchi politics, was first appointed in 2019 during the governor’s maiden term and has since played a key role in shaping policies around women empowerment and child development in the state.

While no reason was given for her removal, sources within Government House hinted that the move may be part of a broader restructuring strategy by Governor Mohammed as he fine-tunes his cabinet ahead of unfolding political realities.

The sudden sack has sparked conversations across Bauchi’s political circles, with many awaiting the announcement of her successor and speculating on the governor’s next steps.

The dismissal, which takes effect immediately, signals yet another chapter in Bala Mohammed’s bid to re-strategize his administration for what analysts describe as “turbulent political times.”
