Calls Out Carter Efe, Urges Celebrities To Lead Solar Power Revolution
By Our Reporter
A Nigerian renewable energy advocate, Yakubu Yunusa, has sparked national debate after declaring that generators should no longer be accepted as an alternative source of electricity in the country, describing them as nothing more than “symbols of missed opportunities.”
Yunusa, who leads the #LightUpSolar Advocacy Campaign, made the remark while reacting to a viral video of entertainer Carter Efe, who was visibly frustrated after his neighbour allegedly switched off a generator during his livestream session.
The incident, which has been trending online, showed Carter Efe’s broadcast abruptly disrupted by a power outage linked to generator use. For Yunusa, the episode reflects a much bigger issue: Nigeria’s stubborn dependence on noisy, fuel-guzzling generators despite the growing accessibility of modern solar technology.
> “The Carter Efe comedy, if true, is embarrassing. In 2025, even average Nigerians can afford basic solar setups. Celebrities and influencers should be leading by example, not clinging to outdated generators,” Yunusa stated in a strongly worded release.
He explained that while the neighbour might not have switched off the generator maliciously—possibly due to noise concerns or because power had been restored—the reliance on generators in such circumstances underlines Nigeria’s failure to embrace renewable alternatives. He also suggested the entire episode could have been staged as a prank, given the entertainment industry’s penchant for viral stunts.
The solar analyst stressed that the time has come to bury the glorification of generators in Nigeria’s energy narrative.
> “Generators are no longer symbols of resilience or hard work; they are symbols of missed opportunities. Across Nigeria—rural and urban—families and communities are turning to solar, supported by mini-grids, battery storage, hybrid inverters, and steadily falling technology costs. High-profile individuals must not be left behind,” he emphasized.
Yunusa argued that celebrities like Carter Efe, who wield massive influence, should adopt solar and hybrid energy systems, thereby setting the right example for millions of young Nigerians.
Through his LightUp Solar Advocacy Campaign, Yunusa has been at the forefront of educating Nigerians on affordable and sustainable energy solutions, stressing the need to shift away from noisy, expensive generators to cleaner alternatives.
He maintained that solar power—once considered a luxury—has now become within reach for many Nigerians, adding that hybrid systems provide reliable, uninterrupted power for homes, businesses, and entertainment hubs.
> “This is no longer a question of affordability; it is a question of vision. If we want real progress, we must abandon the generator mindset and embrace renewable energy,” Yunusa concluded.
