KANO – The authorities of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), have wielded the big stick, expelling no fewer than 57 students over their alleged involvement in examination misconduct.
The decision, which has sent shockwaves across the institution, was ratified at the 427th Senate meeting held on September 10, 2025, in strict compliance with the General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR) that govern both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
In a statement issued by Malam Aminu Wada Kurawa, Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records (DEAR), the university disclosed that the affected students cut across several faculties and departments, underscoring the depth of the disciplinary sweep.
Beyond the expulsions, the Senate also approved the rustication of eight students, sending a strong message of zero tolerance for academic dishonesty.
Meanwhile, the fate of one candidate, Yusuf Muhammad Sani (ENG/18/CIV/00065), remains in the balance. His case has been deferred for further investigation by the Senate Business Committee (SBC), which has been mandated to dig deeper and present a detailed report for consideration.
The latest development highlights BUK’s uncompromising stance on academic integrity, as the institution moves to safeguard its reputation and uphold global standards in higher education.
