The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State on Saturday staged a historic congress at the iconic Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, ushering in a new era of leadership with the emergence of Alhaji Hamza Bello Madagali as State Chairman.

The keenly anticipated political event saw 39 executives affirmed unopposed, in an exercise closely monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), PDP national representatives, and security agencies. It ended peacefully, cementing PDP’s reputation as the dominant political force in Adamawa.

Outgoing State Chairman, Barrister Tahir Shehu—who completes his eight-year tenure on October 6, 2025—reminded delegates of the party’s enduring strength. “We have built a formidable structure. I urge members to rally behind the new leadership so that PDP continues to wax stronger,” Shehu declared to loud ovation.

With over 2,000 accredited delegates casting their votes, the congress was supervised by Barrister Dave Iorhemba, Chairman of the Adamawa State Congress Committee.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, addressing the charged crowd, described the smooth exercise as a testament to PDP’s unity and his administration’s performance.

> “The delegates have spoken with one voice, electing leaders who will steer the ship of our great party into another victorious chapter. These are tested hands, and as we march towards 2027, Adamawa PDP is ready. Power belongs to God, but PDP belongs to the people,” Fintiri declared, triggering chants of “PDP! Power to the People!”

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Bello, pledged to consolidate the party’s unity and mobilize members for future victories.

> “The PDP remains a true family. We will consolidate on Governor Fintiri’s transformation agenda and strengthen our structures ahead of 2027. No member will be left behind. I thank Barrister Tahir Shehu for handing over a stable and formidable foundation,” Bello affirmed.
