Zulum, Northern Governors Unveil Bold Plan To Transform NNDC Into Global Economic Powerhouse

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared that Northern Governors are united in their resolve to restructure and reposition the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) into a world-class conglomerate that will stand as a symbol of economic strength and pride for the region.

Zulum, who chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) Implementation Committee on NNDC restructuring, made the declaration on Monday during a working visit to the company’s corporate headquarters in Kaduna.

Describing the NNDC as the last enduring legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Zulum stressed that the company must be revitalized to serve as a unifying economic institution and a beacon of regional prosperity.

“On behalf of the Northern Governors, I assure you that you will not be let down. NNDC will be repositioned to operate as a world-class conglomerate that will bring pride to the North and the nation at large,” Zulum said, while assuring staff of improved welfare, career progression, and a supportive work environment throughout the restructuring process.

The governor’s remarks were met with resounding commendations from NNDC staff, who hailed the collective resolve of the 19 Northern Governors, and particularly Governor Zulum’s leadership in championing the revival of the historic institution.

Zulum was accompanied by top representatives of Northern States, including Plateau State Deputy Governor, Josephine Piyo; Kwara State Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi; and Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mani Mallam Mummuni.

Also in attendance were NNDC Board Chairman, Alhaji Lamis S. Dikko (Ajiyan Katsina); Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Malam Shehu Mai-Bornu; as well as other senior management executives.

The visit came shortly after the NSGF Implementation Committee held a high-level strategic meeting with the NNDC Board of Directors at the Hassan Usman Katsina House, Kaduna — a move seen as part of broader efforts to reposition the company as a formidable player in both national and global markets.

With this renewed push, the Northern Governors are sending a clear signal: NNDC is not just a relic of history, but a living legacy set for rebirth as a modern economic powerhouse.
