BREAKING: Zamfara Under Siege — Tears, Outrage As Five Worshippers Slain In Mosque Attack Laid To Rest

The quiet village of Yantodo in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State was thrown into mourning on Friday as five worshippers brutally gunned down by bandits during dawn prayers were laid to rest amid tears, anger, and cries for justice.

The tragic funeral, which drew a massive crowd of villagers, clerics, and sympathisers, turned into a charged atmosphere of grief and rage. Mourners described the slain as devout Muslims, steadfast in their faith and known for their daily commitment to prayers.

Attack During Sacred Hour

The bloodshed unfolded at about 5:00 a.m. on Friday, when gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the mosque while the faithful were immersed in early morning prayers. Witnesses recounted the horror as the assailants opened fire indiscriminately, leaving blood, panic, and lifeless bodies in their wake.

“Some managed to escape with injuries, but the unlucky ones were cut down instantly inside the mosque,” a local source confirmed from Gusau, the state capital.

The grief-stricken crowd at the burial soon turned their anguish into fury, directing their wrath at both government officials and security agencies. Loud curses were hurled against those who have consistently championed peace deals with armed bandits in the North-West, agreements many branded as a “deadly ruse” that emboldens criminals while leaving ordinary people to perish.

“They talk about peace deals while our loved ones are being slaughtered in mosques — what kind of peace is this?” a distraught mourner lamented, accusing some government insiders of directly benefiting from such deals instead of pursuing military offensives or prosecuting those responsible.

A Growing Pattern Of Carnage

The Yantodo mosque attack mirrors a disturbing pattern of violence sweeping across Nigeria’s North-West. Only last month, no fewer than 50 worshippers were massacred in Katsina State when bandits stormed another mosque during morning prayers, leaving behind a trail of grief and destruction.

With the Zamfara tragedy, residents say their faith in government promises of security has further eroded. The haunting question on many lips: How many more must die before real action is taken?
