Christian Maduka, a political analyst, has painted a portrait of the late President Muhammadu Buhari as one of Nigeria’s few leaders who lived and died without the taint of corruption.
Speaking in an interview with Signature TV, Maduka recalled Buhari’s famed simplicity, stressing that even in death, his lifestyle reflected the modesty he professed while alive.
According to him, Nigerians who attended the former president’s burial were confronted with the stark reality of his life—Buhari left behind no extravagant mansions, sprawling estates, or hidden assets.
“When Buhari declared his assets, he openly told Nigerians he had 150 cows,” Maduka said. “People went to bury him in his own house, and they saw all he owned. You cannot put him in the category of a corrupt Nigerian politician.”
The analyst further noted that Buhari’s economic record, though often debated, carried a thread of fiscal caution. Unlike many leaders before him, he avoided excessive borrowing and encouraged prudence in government spending.
Maduka argued that, in a nation where public office has too often become synonymous with private enrichment, Buhari’s life stands out as a rare example of restraint and discipline.
“Whatever anyone says about his policies, one thing remains clear—Buhari was not driven by wealth or greed,” he added.
