Katsina State has once again been thrown into the spotlight over the collapse of its public education system, as a civic accountability group, MonITNG, has raised alarm over the deplorable condition of Kamfanin Daudawa Primary School in Faskari Local Government Area.
In a strongly worded petition to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, the group described the state of the school as “a heartbreaking reflection of how education has been recklessly abandoned in Katsina State.”
According to MonITNG, over 200 pupils have already stopped attending classes after their classrooms became death traps.
> “No windows. No doors. No blackboard to write on. The walls are cracked and peeling, the floors unsafe, and the classrooms have become a danger zone rather than a place of learning,” the group lamented.
The group revealed that a recent incident nearly ended in disaster when the ceiling of one of the classrooms collapsed. Fortunately, pupils had closed for the day before it happened.
> “Just imagine if the children had been inside — we would have been counting coffins instead of talking about education. This is not neglect; this is a crime against the future of Katsina,” the statement read.
Billions Allocated, Yet Nothing On Ground
MonITNG accused the Katsina State Government of failing to justify the billions of naira budgeted annually for education. It also questioned the impact of federal interventions, particularly the ₦250 billion disbursed by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) across Nigeria.
> “Where has all the money gone? Children in Kamfanin Daudawa are learning in ruins while the government prioritizes projects like cemetery renovations over the future of the next generation,” it said.
The group insisted that the crisis in Kamfanin Daudawa Primary School is not an isolated case but a loud symbol of systemic failure in governance.
> “The neglect of this school represents the broader tragedy of how billions meant for education end up only on paper while pupils are left abandoned in crumbling structures,” MonITNG added.
Warning of looming dangers, the group said continued neglect would fuel illiteracy, poverty, and insecurity in Katsina State.
> “If urgent action is not taken, more children will abandon classrooms and be lured into crime, insurgency, or early marriages. Education is the most powerful weapon against insecurity, yet the government continues to look away,” it stressed.
MonITNG urged Governor Radda to immediately rescue Kamfanin Daudawa Primary School and restore dignity to the education sector.
> “Our children’s future must not be buried under collapsed ceilings. They deserve safe classrooms, blackboards, desks, and an environment that inspires learning. Education and health should never be compromised — they are the foundation of a prosperous society,” the petition declared.
